Wounded Warrior Project® Believe in Heroes® Campaign - Get Your FREE Coupons Here!

Disclosure: I’m participating in the 2014 Believe in Heroes® blogger campaign and received compensation as part of the program. ALL compensation is being donated to the Wounded Warrior Project®.

I am honored to write that I have become part of the Wounded Warrior Project® Believe in Heroes® Campaign. As a military brat and military wife, this program is very near and dear to me. I asked my father and husband if it would be okay to share their stories here and they gave me permission. Neither wants accolades or attention, but I would write they deserve both.

My father served three tours in the Vietnam War. He was Pararescue and jumped from helicopters while being shot at to rescue men, his brothers, of all branches. My mom has a box of his things from Vietnam and in it contains a newspaper article with a photo of my father. It was a call for a hit on his life by the Viet Cong. It seems like the stuff you see in movies, but he lived it. And now he still lives with physical and emotional scars. Maybe someday he'll talk to me about the things that happened there, but every time I ask he just replies, "Why do you want to know about that? I left those horrible memories there."

My husband spent eight months on a ship and slept in a rack no larger than the size of a dining room table. While there are those who will say that is the job he signed up for, and he'd never complain about it, these are the conditions in which we make some of the most important people in this country live. We have the money and technology to make living conditions better, but we don't.  I find it a travesty for those of us living in the US we seem to value the men who protect a ball more than the men and women who protect this country. We wear jerseys in support of sports teams, yet what do we "sport" in support of our troops?

As veterans transition into civilian life, they face many challenges and our wounded warriors are overcoming what can sometimes seem insurmountable obstacles. There are physical injuries sustained while serving this country and there are the ones that lie beyond the surface such as post traumatic stress disorder, a very real yet very ignored condition. I believe it is our responsibility to give back to these heroes, and I am asking imploring every American to do just that. But how?

So often I hear that people want to contribute, but they feel they cannot necessarily afford to do enough to make a real impact. What if you could join thousands of others to become part of a program that gives back and saves you money at the same time? No strings. No catch. Nothing to sign up for. All you do is print coupons for the grocery shopping you're already doing. That's it. No email address required. No sign-ups. Nada! And yes, it is really that easy.

For the fifth year, Acosta Sales & Marketing has collaborated with Believe in Heroes® in calling on all Americans to show their support to our warriors. From now until the end of November by using coupons each time you shop you can give back. (Coupons will be available until November 30th, or until supplies last). Veterans Day is November 11th. Even if you make it a point to shop on just that day, you will make a difference!

Visit the Believe in Heroes® website by clicking here and downloading over $25 worth of coupons for your grocery shopping. Again, you don't have to sign up for anything. All you do is print and go to the store! You can also purchase great products on the site that will help you show your support for our warriors and give back at the same time.

All retailers who are participants in the program will raise funds and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project®. Please spread the word with the hashtag #BelieveinHeroes and by sharing a link to this post on your Facebook pages, Twitter posts, Pinterest, Instagram and anywhere else you can think of!

Thank you in advance for giving back. I can't wait to see what a difference WE will make!

Derma Roller by Petunia Skincare - Review

When I first laid eyes on my Derma Roller by Petunia Skincare I thought it looked like a crazy miniature pizza slicer! It's a little intimidating since it has a bunch of 1 mm needles you're rolling over your skin - 540 of them to be exact!

The derma roller simulates what I've read labeled as skin needling and people pay BUKU bucks to have this type of skin treatment! Well Petunia Skincare has brought this affordable tool into the home. So how does it work?

The needles stimulate the dermis resulting in more collagen production while at the same time opening the pores so your moisturizers and anti-aging regimens are absorbed faster. On the box are the directions to roll this crazy looking contraption over the skin ten times horizontally, ten times vertically and ten times diagonally in both directions with normal pressure.

Above I am pictured using the Derma Roller in the diagonal direction just after washing my face (no make-up should be on the skin at all). Sensitive areas like my forehead did tend to get a little red. You can see a little redness on my cheek too (I do have very fair skin to begin with). I have read that others find it a bit uncomfortable, but for me it doesn't hurt. I would imagine you can break the skin if you press too hard though.

As for results, I did notice the line on my forehead has definitely lessened. I haven't seen too much of a difference in other areas of my face, BUT - since the Derma Roller can be used on any part of the body, it also works on scars and I have faithfully used it on my leg where I had to have a mole removed and it has made a huge difference in fading the scar which was very dark to begin with.

The needles are made of stainless steel which is known to cause less reaction to the skin, however, a reminder: Always sanitize after use to avoid infection.

I will continue using the Derma Roller and it gets a thumbs up for real results. Bonus points for being made in the USA! Get yours at by clicking here.

Slip Detangler and Tweek Cream Hairspray - Review

I was recently introduced to Slip Detangler by Curly Hair Solutions. Since my hair has been known to tangle, I was anxious to give it a try. While my hair is not curly, it is wavy and can be a bit unruly. I also wanted to find a leave-in conditioner that wouldn't be greasy or weigh my hair down.

Slip is silicone-free and the ingredients such as water and aloe, chamomile and sunflower extracts are all natural. Of course, I love that it is not tested on animals (I will never review a product that is).

After shaking the bottle, the product is applied to wet hair followed by a thirty-second waiting period to let the detangler do its job. For me, I waited over thirty seconds and did have to apply more. While it is not heavy on the hair, which I like, I did not find it very conditioning. The bottle also claims it will tame fly-aways and make your hair shine, but I didn't see a difference as far as this goes when it came to my own hair. Since the ingredients are high-quality, expect it to be a little pricey for eight ounces. As a a detangler, it does work when extra product is applied.

Included with the Slip was a sample of their Tweek product. This is a hairspray in a cream form which I found very interesting! It has a really nice smell and should be applied to completely dry hair. As the label promised, it did not build up on my hair and did give it some extra body. I'm sure for women with curly hair that is also frizzy, this hairspray would help conquer the frizz!

The Oh-So-Wonderful Wet Brush! Review + Giveaway!

While the giveaway has ended, be sure to check out my review of The Wet Brush. Huge thumbs up from Life of a Traveling Navy Wife!  You will definitely want one of your own!

Disclosure: I received one Wet Brush at no cost to compose this review. I have received no compensation. All opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.

Be honest, do you always use a comb to de-tangle your hair before blow-drying?

I admit it. I don't. My hair is extremely thick and I do not know how it manages to get so tangled after I wash and condition, but it's as though it has a mind of its own! It takes what feels like forever to use a comb to get through my mane! I've known it isn't the healthiest thing for my hair but I've used a brush for as long as I can remember because I've actually broken combs trying to get through it.

When I get out of the shower I want to start my day. I don't particularly enjoy blow-drying, so I like to get it over with as quickly as I can. I'm about speed. Faster? Consider me a fan. So when Beauty Care Choices reached out to me asking if I'd like to give The Wet Brush a whirl, I jumped at the chance!

When it came in, it LOOKED like any other brush to me. I read up and wasn't quite sold it would deliver on its promise to "...glide through any hair type combing out tangles effortlessly." Then I opened it up not exactly convinced, but hopeful.

My first observation was the handle is a bit smaller than compared to my other brushes. I have small hands and it was still noticeable.

When it comes to the function of the brush itself, IT WORKS! I couldn't believe how easily, either! I recently started using a spray-in detangler and skipped it just to make sure. Yep. The flexible Intelliflex™ bristles did their jobs and didn't yank or cause any breakage. I have wavy hair and it made no difference:
The Wet Brush goes right through the hair, easily. Thanks to the hubs for being my photographer.
The Wet Brush will work on any hair-type and comes in a variety of fun colors (green is my personal favorite). And one of my most favorite parts: The price. It is extremely affordable. If you're like me and get an early start on holiday shopping, this has you covered! Seriously, it's so reasonable you can give one to just about everybody (and they're 20% off through September 1, 2014)!

It's found a permanent place in my home, that's for sure! You can enter to win a Wet Brush for yourself or a friend by entering below and be sure to get your own Wet Brush(es) by clicking here.
